What is Integrated Safety Management, or ISM? This interactive video provides a short introduction to Integrated Safety Management, and brief overview of ISM's five core functions. Click on any one of the five to learn more about how it is applied in the workplace.

Integrated Safety Management (ISM) is the guiding safety doctrine at Berkeley Lab and is simply how we do everything- from driving on site to performing world class science. It establishes our commitment to work safely, in a manner that strives for the highest degree of protection for everyone who works at the Berkeley Lab.

Health, safety, and protection of the environment are major priorities in all operations. Employees, contractors, and visitors must be familiar with all environment, health, and safety requirements generally applicable to everyone who works at the Berkeley Lab, and must know the hazards in the assigned work area, the level of protection required, specific safe work practices, and applicable health and safety requirements.

It is a Berkeley Lab expectation that all employees, contractors, and visitors adhere to the ISM principles and functions and implement them into all work activities. By practicing these principles, your work will be planned and performed safely.
