Home IR Data Downloader How to dowload data
How do I download my data? PDF Print E-mail

If you are a current or past ALS IR beamline user and have not received a user name and password, please contact Mike or Hans to obtain them.

  • Click on the IR Data Downloader liink in the Tools for Current Users menu.
  • You should see a screen that looks like this:

  • Enter your name and password and then click the Login button.
  • You will see a screen that looks something like this, except it will be your directory on our data server:

  • You can now navigate through your directories as you would on any Windows based computer.
Note: You will have access to your home directory only (no one elses!). The permissions are set so that you can download files, but not modify or create new ones.

To download a file:

1) Select the file in the right screen.

2) Click the 'Download' button on the toolbar or right-click your mouse and select Download.

Note: If you select multiple files or a directory, the download button will not be active.

To download multiple files:

1) Select a directory or multiple files by holding down the 'Ctrl' key while you click files.

2) Click the 'Zip + Download' button on the toolbar or right-click your mouse and select Zip + Download.

3) A new dialogue window will open, prompting you for a filename. Enter a name of your choice.

4) Choose a type of compression for your file: zip is default and works well for most applications.

5) Click Create. The system will create a zip file and prompt you to save it.

Note: Do not attempt to download multiple files that will create a file larger than 20 Mbytes. The current system will not download your data. If you have a single file larger than 20 Mbytes (e.g. a *.map file) you can download it as a single file.

To change your password:

1) Click the 'Account Settings' button on the toolbar.

2) Click the 'Change Password' tab on the dialogue box.

3) Enter your old password and your new password as prompted.
